Report of Experiences

“Girl With Nine Wigs” written by Sophie van der Stap, Knaur Verlag
Sophie van der Stap describes 54 weeks of her life as she undergoes cancer treatment as a young woman at the age of 21 years. Candidly and astonishingly, she talks about her struggle against cancer as a young woman at the age of 21 years, about her uncertainties, fears, and about death, but also about baldness and eyebrow pencils, dating and shopping for wigs and dancing at nightclubs. 'It's Saturday and everything is different. No, I didn’t go to the market this morning and I didn’t have my usual coffee on Westerstraat. And no, I wasn’t getting ready for a new semester at college. Next Monday, January 31st, I have to admit myself at the hospital for my first chemotherapy session. For the next two months, I’m expected each week for a fresh shot of vincristine, etoposide, ifosfamide and loads more exciting abracadabra.’
